Adding images to your blog

Using Images on your blog:

Remember this is all part of reading comprehension so please read these instructions carefully.
Read this page from top to bottom before you begin and then you will know where you are heading.

This activity is going to be fun but first there are some things you need to know.

Can I use any image, music or sound that is on the internet?

No, you must use creative commons which means you have permission to use the images or you must provide attribution for the image.

What does attribution mean?

It means you have to let everyone know who the image belongs to.

But where can I find these images, music and sounds? Can’t I use anything when I google an image?

No, your blog is public so you must use creative commons images, sounds, music and videos.

Sue Waters over at Edublogs has written a fantastic post about images, copyright and creative commons.
I would suggest you all read this post.

She explains about creative commons and the licenses, attribution, how to find images for your blog and how to upload images to your blog.

This might be a bit tricky for some students, but Sue uses lots of pictures and ‘how to do’ sections in her posts.

You also might want to check out where Holly found her image, Samudra also wrote a great post.

Activity 1:

Add an image to your blog from a web site called ‘Photos For Class’, This is a great web site to begin with.

You are going to search for any image, download it and then insert it into your blog and the great thing is that each image you download automatically cites or says who the author is and the type of license it has.

Once you have added your image please write a post about what you have learned about the correct way to use images on your blog and copyright and include this post with your image from‘Photos For Class’,

This is how you do it.

  1. Download your image by clicking on the download button.
  2. Click on the image to open it. Can you see the attribution under the image?
  3. Go to the menu above and go to – file- export. (Export it to a place where you can later find it like your desktop)
  4. Create a new post in your dashboard.
  5. Click on add media
  6. Click on upload files
  7. Drag your image from the desktop or ‘select file’ and find the image you have exported in step 2.
  8. Think about resizing your image before you insert into post, by scrolling on the right hand side .
